As you traverse via Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCAA) to reach the iconic destinations of the Serengeti, the landscape becomes scattered with trees – be careful to look out for leopards eating in the branches of the trees as you go to the Seronera River. The marvelous hippo pools of Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater are must-go for travelers. Along the banks of the lake are astonishing mud and watering holes where hippos laze about in comfortable bliss.

It has some of the most abundant animals and reptiles in Africa, including buffalo, elephants, lion prides, leopards, hyenas, eland, impala, bush deer, and giant Nile crocodiles in the river and lakes. Its fauna is very beautiful. With almost 400 species identified, the birdlife in this area is likewise extraordinary.

Arrival and Exploration
After breakfast, drive to Nyerere National Park, the largest game park in Africa, four times the size of the Serengeti. Its diverse landscapes include volcanic springs, lakes, and channels from the Great Ruaha and Rufiji rivers. The park features open grasslands, Acacia, Miombo woodlands, and riverine forests. The Rufiji River and its tributaries, Kilombero and Luwegu, are vital to the park’s ecosystem. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981, Nyerere boasts Tanzania’s largest populations of elephants, buffalo, and wild dogs. Other common species include lions, hippos, giraffes, and over 420 bird species. Return to Rufiji River Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Picnic and Game Drive:
Our professional and experienced safari guide will choose a suitable picnic spot to have a delicious lunch at the designated picnic site. Afterward, you will resume the game drive until late evening.
Evening Transfer:
In the evening, you will be transferred to one of our carefully selected hotel partners for dinner and your overnight stay.

Walking and Boat Safaris
Wake up very early in the morning, after a cup of tea/coffee transfer to Mtemere gate for Walking inside the Park with the escort of an armed ranger, the journey takes about 2 to 3hours, on arrival to your pick up point you will be transferred back to the Lodge for Breakfast. Thereafter proceed with short game drives till lunch which will be served at the lodge. Boat Safari in the afternoon is another way of game viewing on the Rufiji River; it offers a unique experience as Nyerere is the only Park in Tanzania and East Africa where this option is available. Rufiji River is one of the most dramatic rivers in Tanzania’s and National Parks which is navigable all year round. The elusive leopard is commonly spotted in the Seronera region but is found throughout the park. Its population is approximated to be about 1,000.

Nyerere National Park is the largest protected wildlife area in Africa, due to the unique ecological importance this pristine uninhabited area was declared as “World Heritage Site” by the United Nations in 1981. Nyerere is bigger than Switzerland or Denmark covering an area of about 54’600sq km. Nyerere boasts Tanzania’s largest and most important populations of Elephant, Buffalo and Wild dog in Africa. Almost 60’000 of Tanzania’s Elephants are found there as well as large numbers of Hippo; other species commonly seen are Lions, Bushbuck, Impala, Giraffe, Eland, Baboon, Zebra, Greater Kudu, etc. Waterbuck, Reedbuck gathers at the water edge of Lake Tagalala linked to the Rufiji River. Selous is also a prime destination for Bird-watchers; more than 420 endemic species have been recorded, drive back to the camp for check out and drive back to Dar es Salaam for your flight back home.
During the afternoon, you will be served lunch at a specially designated picnic site and then go on an afternoon game drive until late evening. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the lodge.
