Arrival in Dar es Salaam
Your Tanzanian safari adventure begins as you land at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam. This bustling port city is the largest in Tanzania and serves as a gateway to both the coast and the wild interior. Upon arrival, a professional guide from Asili Explorer will greet you and escort you to your hotel. You’ll receive a brief introduction to the journey ahead, giving you a sense of the landscapes and wildlife you’ll soon encounter.
Once you arrive at your accommodation, you’ll have time to unwind and recover from your journey. Enjoy the hotel’s facilities, freshen up, or relax with a refreshing drink. Depending on your arrival time, you may be able to explore a little of the city or simply take in the coastal atmosphere.

After a hearty breakfast in Dar es Salaam, your adventure truly begins as you depart the city and head towards the vast Selous Game Reserve. You’ll arrive at your lodge inside or near Selous in time for a warm lunch and a quick orientation about the area.
In the afternoon, prepare for your first thrilling activity — a boat safari on the mighty Rufiji River. This is a unique experience not offered in many parks, allowing you to get up close to hippos, crocodiles, and vibrant birdlife from the comfort of a boat. Today begins with an invigorating hike into the Udzungwa Mountains, home to rare primates, butterflies, and tropical bird species.
